LEWISTON – David St. Andre has been appointed the new postmaster of Lewiston.
He comes to the job of Lewiston postmaster after having served as postmaster of Gardiner for the past five years. He joined the Postal Service in 1984 as a letter carrier in Auburn, Mass., and transferred after his first year, becoming a letter carrier in Auburn, Maine.
A Massachusetts native, St. Andre received his college degree in forestry at Unity College in Maine. After running his own carpentry business for a while after college in Massachusetts, he left to join the Postal Service and decided to return to Maine to raise his young family, serving as a letter carrier for four years. He always aspired to become a postmaster and moved up from letter carrier to delivery supervisor, working in that capacity for three years. He became a postmaster in South Paris, serving in that position for six years before becoming postmaster of Gardiner.
In addition to those positions, St. Andre has served in a number of postal developmental details, or temporary assignments, where he got to work on a variety of postal projects and learn new skills.
As the postmaster of Lewiston, St. Andre oversees a workforce of 80 employees.
A Turner resident, St. Andre and Linda, his wife of 10 years, have six grown children, two of whom reside in Maine. Linda is a native of Lewiston and has worked for the Lewiston School Department for 25 years.
