DIXFIELD – John E. Daley, 71, of Dixfield, died early Monday morning, Aug. 16, at his home.

He was born in Dixfield, Aug. 19, 1932, a son of Alward and Ruth (Webster) Daley. He attended Dixfield schools and went on to join the Navy and served during the Korean War.

On March 16, 1959, he married, Arlene Towle in Mexico. She predeceased him on Dec. 10, 2003.

Mr. Daley worked at Diamond International for 25 years and went on to work for SAD 21 as custodian, maintenance man and school bus driver from 1982-2002.

He was passionate about the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping on the coast with his wife, and flying when he had his pilots license. He enjoyed working with wood and leather making and painting various crafts. He treasured the trips to Greenville where he was able to spend time with his sister, fishing.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy LaBrecque, of Rumford and Margaret Wing and her companion, Ted Daigle, of Mexico; two sons, Darryll Daley and his wife, Florence, of East Dixfield and Hart Daley and his wife, Allison, of Dixfield; nine grandchildren, Kayleigh, Josh, Derek, Colleen, Lauren, Sabrena, Shannon, Bruce, and Maryann; three great-grandchildren, Tymeka, Caitlyn, and Kaylee; four brothers, Edward and his wife, Katie, of Dixfield, Alward and his wife, Cathy, of California, Hugh and his wife, Vawn, of Dixfield, and Elwin and his wife, Genie, of Alexander; three sisters, Marion Brown, of West Peru, Emily Houghton and her husband, Kermit, of Dixfield, and Alice Kinney, of Greenville; his mother-in-law, Thirza Towle, of Dixfield; two sisters-in-law, Emma Towle, of Florida, and Natalie Towle, of Rumford; two brothers-in-law, Earle Towle, of Old Orchard and Leland Mingo, of Rumford.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Daley, a brother, Bobby, and two sisters, Doris and Frances Daley.
