RUMFORD – Selectmen on Thursday night will hear a request to put some land into a trust and will discuss replacing the Congress Street fire station.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Municipal Building.
Marcel Polak, a member of the Mahoosuc Land Trust, will discuss a possible purchase of a portion of Whitecap Mountain in the northwest section of Rumford.
Joe Sirois, administrator for Oxford County ARC, will begin discussions with the board about a possible property swap that could mean relocating the Fire Department to the former armory, where OCARC is housed, in exchange for a suitable alternate site for Sirois’ program.
Board Chairman Jim Thibodeau said a determination must first be made on whether the armory would be suitable as a fire station before in depth talks begin.
Also on the agenda are:
• A request to change the town’s policy so that vendors could offer foods at the information center parking lot for extended periods of time.
• A discussion of the possible installation of directional signs to the major shopping area of the town.
• Consideration of leasing up to five police cruisers.
• A decision on whether to change the bylaws governing whistles at the railroad crossing at the Rumford end of Veterans Memorial Bridge.
• Discussion on a recently installed stop sign at the corner of Penobscot Street and Swift Avenue.
• Discussion on downtown parking.
• A request for a donation to a local softball team.
The board plans a closed session at the end of the meeting to discuss a possible business venture.
