OTISTIELD – Sign-ups for the youth soccer teams are going on through Aug. 30. Registration forms are available at the Otisfield Town Hall or Otisfield Community School. Teams will be comprised of students in grades one through six. There will be an instructional program for kindergarten students.
Cost for the one through six grade programs will be $20 for one child, and $40 for two or more children. Kindergarten students will pay $15. Anyone wishing to volunteer to be a coach should contact Barbara Dunham at 627-4217.
Bridge play
NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge held a club championship on Aug. 13. Winners were: North-South, first, Georgette Jewell and Pat Quinn; second, Nancy Farmer and Dick Allen; third, Barbara and Paul Beegel. East-West, first, Woodie Mercier and Anna Cormier; second, Misha Tomic and Les Buzzell; third, Carol Curran and Suzanne Andrews. Second Flight placing were Richard Balian and Jim Thompson.
A regular game is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 20, and a STAC game will be held Friday, Aug. 27. Although the game is run as usual, hands are pre-set by ACBL and silver points are awarded.
OHDB welcomes all bridge players at 9 a.m. each Friday morning. The session is held at the Fare Share Food Coop, 445 Main St. Parking and entrance are directly behind the building. For more information, call Mimi Bell 743-8081.
Tea and show
BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Historical Society invites the community to the Silver Tea and Textile Show at Narramissic, the historic 1797 Peabody-Fitch House in South Bridgton, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22. Margaret Monroe began this tradition more than 50 years ago when the property was her summer residence, and the society has continued the event in her honor since they were bequeathed the property by Monroe in 1986.
The house is filled with a display of quilts, coverlets and historic textiles, with high tea served on the porch. The exhibit of antique theorems continues, and tours of the house will be available. Entry fee is $5 for adults, students are $4, and children under 12 are $2.
Narramissic is on Ingalls Road in South Bridgton. The society is a nonprofit, volunteer organization devoted to education and preservation of Bridgton town history. It also maintains a Research Center and Museum on Gibbs Avenue. Proceeds from the show go towards maintaining these facilities. Phone 647-9954 for information.
Nature trip
NORWAY – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at the WalMart parking lot (south side near Route 26) and carpool to Two Lights State Park and Crescent Beach State Park for viewing shore birds. Coaches needed
PARIS – Oxford Hills Majorette Teams will be looking for new coaches and assistant coaches along with committee members to help with recitals, parades, competitions and shows. Committee members will meet approximately five times per season. Twirl teams begin in late September and finish in April. Oxford Hills Majorettes had 90 members last year and are a growing baton twirling organization. Interested persons please call Lisa at 674-3670.
