OQUOSSOC – The Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen will hold its annual August cookout at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the clubhouse on Old Skiway Road.

This year a live auction will be conducted by Bob Glass. A seasonal resident of Rangeley, Glass is the principal auctioneer for Paul Newman and has raised millions of dollars for charities around the world. He will offer several items, including a full-day guided fishing trip, lunch for two at the Balsams Hotel, an antique bamboo fly-fishing rod, two-day ski passes to Sugarloaf, a mounted moose leg, a four-person dome tent, Griswold iron cookware, limited-edition prints by Dave Footer and Dave Tibbetts, and some surprise items.

This annual event includes a meal prepared by Bob Allen an his crew of helpers. Included in the $20 price is a choice of steak or salmon, salad, corn on the cob, potato salad, beverage and an array of homemade desserts. Tickets for the event may be obtained in advance by calling Bob Allen 864-2129 or John Thomas 864-5360, or may be bought on the day of the cookout.

Gospel concert

WILTON – East Wilton Union Church will be hosting its fourth gospel concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, on the church lawn, featuring the Hyssongs. The Hyssongs, a family that sings Southern gospel music, travel extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Dell, Susan and Richard Hyssong have appeared on television, radio, and are Nashville recording artists.

Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair to the concert, which will be held inside if it rains. A free-will offering will be taken. More information may be obtained by calling 645-4297.

Vacation Bible school

KINGFIELD – “Hero Quest: Powered By Faith” vacation Bible school will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 23 to Aug. 27 at the Kingfield United Methodist Church. Children ages 4 and up are invited to join in “hero quest missions” each day. Each event is filled with a powerful Bible story and mission story, crafts activities, games, music and other activities. Country and western music

LIVERMORE FALLS – There will be country and western music concert at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Gazebo.
