HARTFORD – Copies of letters showing that Pine Shores subdivision received curbside and bulky waste service in the year 2000 were presented to the Planning Board Monday night.
Members of the subdivision are attempting to have the service renewed.
The letters from June Davis and Roger Libby showed that the service from Archie Inc. lasted for 17 months. It was halted after complaints that the waste collection was in conflict with the original contract with Patten Corp., which said Pine Shores would be responsible for its own trash removal.
Both Davis and Libby were on the Planning Board when the agreement was made with Patten Corp.
Davis said, “I signed the agreement between Hartford and Pine Shores regarding approval of the subdivision. Since then, arrangements have changed and trash pickup was approved for all town residents. I see no reason why this arrangement should not include Pine Shore residents as well.”
And Roger Libby agreed. “I am sure it was never the intention of the Planning Board for the people who built the subdivision to be discriminated against.”
Judy Hamilton, Planning Board member, asked if the Pine Shore application for trash removal was complete. Chairman Don Maddox said it wasn’t.
Hamilton said, “I’d like to move to accept the Pine Shores application as complete so we can move forward on this issue.” The motion did not pass.
Maddox said he wanted to hear from the Waste Committee.
Planning Board alternate Arthur Harvey said he wanted a condition placed on the acceptance, which had to do with one of the criteria in the finding of fact. It states, in part, that “the proposed subdivision will not have an undue adverse effect on … any public rights for physical or visual access to the shoreline.” This criterion had been determined to be not applicable at the last Planning Board meeting. The request to revisit this criterion at the next meeting was tabled.
Maddox said it was for this reason that he did not want to call the application complete.
Dave Bowen, from Pine Shores, said, “Just tell us what you want and you will have it.”
Maddox replied that he didn’t know.
The discussion of the Pine Shores application amendment will be continued at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.
