In Pennsylvania 350 milk dealers have been detected recently in using formaldehyde to preserve the fluid, and comparatively few dealers have yet undergone inspection. The Philadelphia Press says “this is discouraging,” and it is warranted in saying so, because this use of formaldehyde is pronounced to be deleterious to health. Among the plaudits were congratulatory telegrams from Gov. Joseph E. Brennan and US Rep. Olympia Snowe. Over 200 zealous supporters waited in the rain Sunday for the Auburn Suburban All-Stars to return from Gary, Ind. to a heroes’ welcome at the Hasty Memorial Armory. As reports of the procession’s movement were radioed to Dick Schrepper from the toll gate, Lewiston and Auburn, the crowd’s anticipation grew. A burst of applause rang out as the team was seen aboard an Auburn fire truck at the head of the caravan leading to the Armory. It was 17 games ago when Auburn began its long route to Gary with a 15-1 victory over Elliot of Lewiston. After Saturday’s 6-1 loss to eventual champion Taiwan left Auburn third in the World Series, ASLL officials and fans cemented plans for the tribute.
