HEBRON – Vacation Bible School begins on Monday, Aug. 23, at Hebron Community Baptist Church, Station Road. The school runs from 6 to 8 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 27. Each day’s activities will open with singing and a visit with Sal, a puppet, and her friends. Children will be divided into age groups for other activities. Travelers’ outing

LEWISTON – Twin City Council 160 of The United Commercial Travelers of America will hold its annual Past Counselors’ Summer Outing at the cottage of Robert and Nancy Hutchinson on Tripp Lake in Poland on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Social hour will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a chicken dinner served at 6. For reservations, call Doug Larrabee (345-9533) or Robert Blanchard (783-9471) by Tuesday, Aug. 24. All past counselors and members are welcome.

Grange picnic

AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange 65 will have their summer outing at the home of Bill and Shirley Hatch in Wales on Thursday, Aug. 26, starting around 4 p.m. Please bring your own picnic as well as a salad or dessert to share and lawn chairs. A grill will be available for those wishing to cook. All members and guests are welcome.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 17 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Ron Reynolds and Ray Sirois; third, David Lock and Martine Begert; fourth, Les Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; fifth, Pat Quinn and Georgette Jewell. Winners in Flight B were: first, Pat Quinn and Georgette Jewell; second, Doug and Betty Sise. Winners in Flight C were Doug and Betty Sise.

The club will hold a STaC game at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24. All points awarded in this game will be silver. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on Aug. 18 at Schooner Estates. Winners in Flight A were: first, Bruce Murray and Lucille Theriault; second, Ray Sirois and John Hackett; tied at third, Martine Begert and Leslie Lord with Leslie Buzzell and Mike Quinn.

Winners in Flight B were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. A STaC game will be played at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Schooner Estates. All points awarded in this game will be silver. For further information and/or a partner, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

Self-esteem class

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Center for Women, Work and Community is offering the following class at UMA Lewiston/Auburn College, 51-55 Westminster St.: W.I.T.T. (Women In Transition Together) Support Group will be having a free class titled “Self-Esteem 101.” This will be a refresher class and will be an opportunity to determine if the full workshop will benefit the participant.

Food distribution

AUBURN – Auburn AC Serve (SHARE), part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will hold distribution day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance. Historian to speak

BOWDOIN – Christi Mitchell, architectural historian, will discuss how the First Baptist Church of Bowdoin was added to the National Register of Historic Buildings at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at the church, Coombs Road.

Those attending are asked to park on Route 201, and a van shuttle will be provided. Donations are welcome. Half of the proceeds will go to the Bowdoin Historical Society and half to the Carter Schoolhouse restoration project.

Seniors to meet

MONMOUTH – The Golden Age seniors will meet after a summer recess on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Packard Activity Center (United Church basement). The meeting begins with a potluck dinner at noon. Discussions will be held regarding fall trips and programs. All area senior citizens are invited.
