LEWISTON – Crews will close Lisbon Street between Chestnut and Pine streets for 12 hours Sunday while attaching an emergency sprinkler line to a new water main.

The closure is part of a city water pipe cleaning that’s scheduled to wrap up next week. Crews have been digging lines along lower Lisbon Street and coating the insides of the pipes with concrete. Work on the project is scheduled to finish Wednesday.

Public Works Director Dave Jones said a water sprinkler line connecting a building to the main was not where crews expected. Crews need to relocate that line, he said.

Lisbon Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, and traffic will diverted around the downtown.
