AUBURN – Artspace, a new art instruction studio for young people and adults, is opening in early September by Martha Truscott-Boardman, a noted artist and longtime art educator in local schools.
The studio will be located at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center at High and Academy streets. It will offer a large space for all the class activities.
Martha Truscott-Boardman is an artist and arts educator with 25 years experience. She holds a bachelor of science degree in art education from the University of Southern Maine and has taught visual and performing arts in private and public schools as well as artist-in-residence workshops at libraries and art festivals.
Truscott-Boardman has exhibited her work throughout Maine and has created and directed giant puppet performances involving Lewiston-Auburn youth at Bates College’s Olin Arts Center.
Eleven-week sessions for each of four youth age groups are planned.
Art 1 for ages 6-8 will include drawing games, painting, collage, paper mache puppets and printmaking. Art 2 for ages 9-11 also includes mask making and sculpture, and Art 3 for ages 12 and 13 includes exploration of various media as well as two dimensional design and painting skills. Art 4 for ages 14-17 adds observational drawing and painting skills and techniques.
For adults 18 and above, an Art Exploration Studio will run for 11 weeks on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Creative Bookmaking for development of “artist’s books” is an 11-week program offered on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The adult sessions will start after Labor Day.
She said the size of classes will be limited to eight to 10 students. Classes for individuals may also be arranged. For information phone 777-5320.
