I had hoped that the tactics of those PACs supporting the president’s re-election would be cleaner this time around. Regretfully, I was wrong. A group originating in Texas and purporting to be Swift Boat veterans from Vietnam who claim to have served with John Kerry have launched an attack that is nothing short of slander. It has been rebutted by the veterans who really did serve with Kerry, and the attack has been condemned by John McCain who noted that the Bush campaign did the same to him in years past.

The biggest issue, however, isn’t that attack, but rather the president’s refusal to condemn it. Is he that afraid of the truth? Is his version of Christianity one that condones bearing false witness?

There are some times where doing the right thing is what defines a person’s honor no matter what their political affiliation. This is one of them.
