LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Chapter of SCORE will present its annual small business workshop, How to Start Your Own Business, in September.

It will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 15 to Oct. 20, at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

This workshop is recommended for those considering a business start-up or have recently gone into business and need help.

The presentations and materials offered will provide information and resources that relate to common situations and concerns.

The subjects to be discussed include marketing, legal and insurance needs, effective advertising in print and on the Internet, developing the business plan, bank financing and the programs available from the Small Business Administration.

Well-known area business professionals and SCORE counselors who will participate in the workshop include Brenda Garrand, president of Garrand & Co. advertising agency; James Burbank, senior business counselor at the Mid-Coast Council for Business Development in Brunswick; Ronald Bissonette, partner in the law firm of Isaacson & Raymond; Diane Iannotti, business insurance advisor at Champoux Insurance Co.; Elizabeth Hoy, vice president and commercial loan officer at Auburn Savings Bank; Maurice Ouellette, retired former financial officer of Sampson’s Super Markets; Sun Journal advertising manager Bruce Rioux and Internet sales manager Jeff Haggerty; and Pat Knowles, business development specialist from the Small Business Administration.

Cost of the full workshop is $75 per person. Individual sessions are $15.

SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, is a national nonprofit association of volunteers providing counseling, mentoring and workshops to small business persons.
