SUMNER – The East Sumner Congregational Church rang with the voices and laughter of 35 children during the week of July 19 to 23. The morning Vacation Bible School focused on “The Adventures of David: The Story of a Shepherd Who Became a King,” put out by Wood Lake Books.

Lessons, songs, snacks, games and crafts were part of the stories of David’s life. Members of the church donated time and items for the week as did area businesses. Christian education director is Cynthia Norton.

The mission project for the week was successful, with the children bringing three grocery bags of canned and boxed foods for the church food bank and $31 for Heifer Project International. After listening to stories about families and the animals available, the vote was to send the $31 to help provide a trio of rabbits to a family. The cost is $60.

Pastor Linda Kimball and Norton invite families to Sunday services at 9 a.m. and to the start of Sunday school on Sept. 12. It will run from 9 to 10 a.m. during the worship service. Sept. 12 will be a Coffee Hour Sunday; there will be special refreshments following the service.

For more information call Kimball at 364-2322 or Norton at 388-2667.
