Lane, Brolin tie the knot
The luminescent Diane Lane has wed actor Josh Brolin (whose dad is Barbra Streisand’s hubby) in a super-secret ceremony.
So secret, spokeswoman Kelly Bush confirmed the wedding but said her clients banned her from saying anything else besides “they’re hitched,” reports The Associated Press. She is under orders not to say when, where or how” the no-doubt radiant – even “effulgent’ – wedding occurred.
Lane, 39, the star of “Unfaithful” and “Under the Tuscan Sun,” had been engaged to Brolin, 36, since August 2002.
Lane told AP Radio at that time that Brolin, the star of the short-lived TV series “Mister Sterling,” got down on one knee and popped the question on the Fourth of July.
“It was early, early, early, early in the morning. Like dawn,” Lane said. “I had no idea what was coming.”
Rosario getting political
NEW YORK (AP) – Of 32 million voting-age Latinos, only 8 million voted in the 2000 election. Actress Rosario Dawson is trying to change that.
Dawson, 25, and Latino youth advocate Phil Colon have founded Voto Latino, a nonpartisan, nonprofit activist group that seeks to motivate young Latino voters.
A series of public service announcements will begin airing on MTV Networks beginning Aug. 30, with additional distribution on major English- and Spanish-language networks.
The initiative is being supported by MTV’s “Choose or Lose” voting campaign.
Dawson, whose films include “Men in Black II,” “The Rundown” and the upcoming “Alexander,” appears in a spot that she concludes with the group’s catch phrase: “It’s your country, represent.”
Rapper Fat Joe has also recorded a public service announcement, and Benjamin Bratt, and John Leguizamo are among those now producing ads.
“Our goal is to get 1 million Latino youth to go out and vote and to possibly decide this upcoming presidential election,” Colon said in a recent statement.
Crowes may come back
We’re guessing Chris Robinson is getting sick of being introduced as Mr. Kate Hudson and former frontman of Black Crowes.
The Crowes have been all but dead since breaking up, er, going on hiatus in 2002, but now, a reunion might be in the works, reports E!Online.
Aside from playing hubby to Hudson, Robinson has been trying to get his new band, New Earth Mud, off the ground, but without much success. Earlier this year, he was reported to be talking to former members of Stone Temple Pilots and Guns N’ Roses about forming a new band, but that project never seemed to jell. This week, the shaggy rocker scrapped plans for a fall tour with New Earth Mud, fueling speculation that he might be ready to reteam with younger brother, Rich, and the rest of the Crowes.
The oft-battling siblings recently met with former manager Pete Angelus to hash out a possible reunion. Angelus has commented on the chances for a Crowes concert swing, but did tell Billboard magazine, “Keep your resin-covered fingers crossed.”
Billboard also notes that the long dormant Black Crowes Web site, BlackCrowes.com, was recently updated with an animation of two crow heads, joints ablaze, bopping to the band’s tunes.
Philbin gets in record book
Regis Philbin has lived a lifetime on television. Logging 15,188 hours on the tube has yielded him fame, fortune – and now a place in the record books.
Friday’s broadcast of “Live With Regis and Kelly” gives the talk-show host the Guinness World Record for most hours on camera. He passes broadcaster Hugh Downs for the record, as calculated by Guinness World Records researcher Stuart Claxton.
“Now it’s all a big blur,” Philbin told The Associated Press as he looked back on his career that began as a San Diego news anchor in 1958. “When you look back, that’s a lot of hours on TV.”
With now officially the longest resume in television, Philbin wonders, “You’d think it might make me better, but I don’t know.”
Philbin, who will turn 73 next week, has hosted the syndicated “Live” in all 16 of its seasons – now with Kelly Ripa. In his 46-year career, he has hosted numerous news and entertainment shows, as well as the ABC game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
