AUBURN – Auburn Public Library’s monthly book discussion group will discuss “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Book Burrow and Caf, 1-B Great Falls Plaza.

The next book in the series is “Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold to be discussed on Thursday, Sept. 30. For more information, call the library at 782-3191.

Seniors to meet

AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St. Bingo will be played after the meeting and a bag lunch.

President Dorothy Larrabee presided at the Aug. 11 meeting with 72 members present. August birthdays were recognized, with special reference to Val Labrie celebrating her 99th birthday.

Membership Chairwoman Lucy Cowles reminded members some have not yet paid their 2004 dues.

Trip Chairwoman Evelyn Sawin said the bus will leave at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 24 from the American Legion Post for the fall foliage trip to Hart’s Turkey Farm, Meredith, N.H. Cost is $43. If interested, call Lee Koss or Sawin at the seniors meetings or call Sawin at 998-4577 or Koss at 783-6396.

Attendance prize winners were Flo Webber and Shirley Montgomery; pot of gold, Doris Michael and Aileen Harnden. Bingo was played after the meeting and a bag lunch.

Blood drive

WINTHROP – An American Red Cross community blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at St. Francis Parish Hall, Lake Street. The drive is open to all donors, and a identification card or license is required.

Lake association

SABATTUS – The Sabattus Lake Association will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Jacques Cartier Club, Route 132.

Luncheon series

LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon lecture series will start its new season on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at L/A College. The program will feature presentations by the instructors scheduled for the upcoming Senior College fall semester courses at the college.

The program will be held at noon in the function room at L/A College on Westminster Street. Attendees will be able to register for the fall courses at the luncheon.

The cost, which includes lunch, is $5 with advance reservation, and $7 at the door. Door will open at 11:45 and the program will begin at noon. For reservations, call 753-6510 by Sept. 3.
