The end is near for the five soccer legends who made sports cool and sexy, who launched a revolution and who now have reached the point where they play with some of the same young athletes they inspired.
Tonight will mark the final appearance for the “fab five” of U.S. women’s soccer. Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Kristine Lilly, Brandi Chastain and Joy Fawcett have been at the core of the American squad that has been among the world leaders in the sport since their initial Women’s World Cup triumph in 1991.
The “fab five” are determined to go out on top by beating No. 6 Brazil for the gold medal. The match will be televised live by NBC, beginning at 2 p.m.
