AUBURN – Tambrands is holding a job fair this weekend to meet increasing production demands at the Hotel Road plant.
The plant is the only manufacturer of Tampax and Pearl tampons in North America, producing about 10 million tampons a day for parent company Procter & Gamble. Since the launch of the Pearl line of tampons in the summer of 2002, production has been growing.
The Pearl tampon has cornered about 12 percent of the U.S. tampon market in less than two years. Its continued success is fueling the Tambrands job fair, said Dennis Rogers, public affairs manager.
“We’ve had to step up production on Pearl to meet its growing sales volume,” he said. “The launch was very successful.”
The job fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the 2879 Hotel Road plant.
Rogers said the company is hoping to hire 25 new manufacturing plant technicians. They’re looking for high school graduates who can develop mechanical and electrical skills and work with a team. Entry pay for of these jobs begins at just under $12 per hour, with $2 incremental raises up to about $23 per hour. A comprehensive benefits package includes Procter & Gamble profit sharing, which has been offered since 1887 and is one of the longest continuous profit-sharing programs in the United States.
Tambrands employs more than 600 people at its Auburn facility, with an annual payroll of $19 million. It has invested more than $130 million in new equipment since 1997, when Procter & Gamble bought the company.
