AUBURN – The Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra is looking for musicians who love classical music and who are interested in playing in an orchestra.
The orchestra will start its 2004-2005 season Thursday, Sept. 2, when rehearsals begin. Rehearsals are each Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road off Center Street
This season, the orchestra’s 16th, includes Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 5,” Dvorak’s “New World Symphony” and Mozart’s “Overture to the Marriage of Figaro.”
There are no auditions; interested people can call 576-1504 or e-mail [email protected].
The orchestra particularly needs string players and lower brass players; however, there is room for other instruments.
The orchestra is made up of amateur musicians from local communities. The 45 members of the orchestra range in age from 15 to over 80 and have a great time getting together each week to work on putting together their concerts, said the spokesman.
People who might be interested are being invited to stop by for one of the Thursday evening rehearsals to check it out for themselves. People can find more information about the orchestra at home.gwi.net/~rcrand/AVCO/AVCO_Default.html. That Web site includes information on cellist Paul Ross, the orchestra’s artistic director and conductor, and a map to the rehearsal location.
