BRUNSWICK – William S. Lowell, 73, of 26 Elm St., Topsham, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Midcoast Medical Center.
He was born in Canton, May 6, 1931, a son of Fred S. and Thelma Leadbetter Lowell. He attended schools in Canton, Brunswick and graduated from Morse High School. He attended the University of Maine, Portland and Orono.
Mr. Lowell served in the Air Force during the Korean War, where he received pilot training and was assigned to Air and Sea Rescue.
He married Lauriette G. Freeman in Topsham in April 1953. Mrs. Lowell died Feb. 27, 1976.
He was an assessor in Brunswick and Yarmouth, where he retired in 1992, to pursue his love of hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
He was a member of United Lodge 8, F & AM and Rangeley Guides & Sportsmans’s Assoc. He was a former member of the Brunswick Golf Club, Brunswick Youth Hockey Association and a member of numerous assessor and building inspector organizations.
Mr. Lowell loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Powers, of Rumford; two sons, Jeffrey Lowell and his wife, Alison, of Boothbay and Jon Lowell and his wife, Caroline, of Brunswick; a sister, Sharon Jewett, of Morrisville, Vt.; five grandsons, Benjamin Powers, Hunter Lowell, Jonathan Lowell, Charlie Lowell and Jack Lowell.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Lowell.
