RUMFORD – Police are seeking help from the public in solving the theft of money from an Aug. 13 benefit for a Mexico family whose teen-aged daughter died tragically.

Detective Sgt. Stacy Carter said police were alerted on Aug. 18 to the theft of an undisclosed amount of money that was raised at a benefit dance at Rumford’s American Legion Hall.

“Anyone with any information should contact me at 364-4551,” Carter said Friday.

Proceeds from the event were to be donated to the Kali Calden family to help cover lost work time and medical expenses.

Sixteen-year-old Kali Nichole Calden, a Mountain Valley High School student, died June 25 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston of injuries sustained June 23 after she got caught under water in the Swift River in Mexico.
