LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – Dozens of police used motorcycles, cruisers and a helicopter to sweep city streets for gang members after the double murder of two brothers shot to death as they played cards on their family’s porch.

The Friday night dragnet, which was to continue through the weekend, followed the killings of John Tejada, 13, and his brother Moises Cotto, 19, outside their Lincoln Street home late Thursday.

“We want them (gang members) to know we are around this weekend,” police Capt. William Taylor told The Sun of Lowell. “We intend to be everywhere.”

About a dozen people were arrested on charges ranging from drug possession to traffic violations within four hours as police sought suspects with prior arrest warrants, monitored motorists and trolled for information from suspected gang members.

State Police and a half-dozen FBI agents accompanied police from Lowell and surrounding towns.

“We’ll do whatever we have to do,” Taylor said.
