LEWISTON – Maurice G. Couturier, 89, of Huckins Street, Lewiston, died at Central Maine Medical Center Friday, Aug. 27.

He was born in Auburn on May 22, 1915, the son of George and Eva Benoit Couturier.

He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1932, and joined the United States Army and served his country during World War II.

He found employment as a foreman at Cushman Shoe Co., and worked with other shoe manufacturing companies until his retirement in 1977.

On Oct. 16, 1945, Maurice married the former Yvonne Richard and settled down in Lewiston to raise a family.

He was a member of Holy Cross parish.

He had a passion for music, playing saxophone and clarinet for the Lou Paul Orchestra with his brother Lorenzo. He also enjoyed camping, woodworking, building toy train sets with landscapes, and time spent with family.

He is survived by his sons, Marcel Couturier of Lewiston, and Mark Couturier of Auburn; three grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, and Martin, all of Auburn; a sister, Yvette Dallaire and her husband, Leo, of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne, in 1987; and his brother, Lorenzo.
