AYER, Mass. (AP) – A pilot at the controls of a home-built airplane was forced to land the craft on Route 2 Sunday afternoon when its engine stopped.
Ron Tetrault was flying above the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge when the engine of his mini-Max single-seater cut off. He told the Sentinel & Enterprise of Fitchburg that he had to make a quick decision about where the land the plane.
The 52-year-old pilot said he thought he may have inadvertently caused the engine to stop as he was making his descent to land at Shirley Airport. “I guess I hit the cut-off switch with my knee,” he said.
