AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA recently completed its 38th season of youth camping. For nine weeks, 155 to 170 children were bused out and back to the Camp Connor facility in Poland daily from the YMCA.
Some of the activities included archery, arts and crafts, boating, field trips, nature walks, overnight camping under the stars, fishing, campfire building, sports and swimming.
Each week there were special theme days, such as Hawaiian Day and Countries of the World Day. The last day of camp the annual Peanut Carnival was held. Events included golf putting, a dunk tank (dunk your favorite counselor), face-painting, archery competition, water balloon throwing, darts and card games. Peanuts were given to the campers to spend to enter the events and peanuts were awarded if the camper was successful.
Camp Connor is a co-ed day camp, owned and operated by the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA for youngsters age 6 to 13. Located on Lower Rang Pond, it includes a large playing field, beach, wooded areas, adventure island and an expanded main lodge.
