FALMOUTH (AP) – The Coast Guard searched Sunday for a Chatham fisherman who was three days overdue to return from a trip.
The Avaricious, a 33-foot wooden hull tuna boat, left a week ago and was believed headed for fishing grounds about 100 miles south of Nantucket. It was due to return Thursday.
The owner and captain, Bradley Richardson, 54, the only person on board, has not been heard from since he left, Coast Guard officials said.
Richardson is known to stop in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and Block Island and Newport, R.I., to refuel and offload his catch, officials said.Port searches have come up empty.
The Coast Guard issued an alert asking area mariners to watch for the vessel, and were surveying pilots who commonly “spot” schools for fishermen if Richardson hired them this week.
