ROCKLAND – The Farnsworth Art Museum seeks farmers’ market and craft vendors to participate in its 10th annual Harvest Day Celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, on the museum lawn.

Vendors with seasonal products and/or crafts are encouraged to participate in the annual community celebration that includes awarding of prizes for the Festival of Scarecrows contest.

Council meeting

AUGUSTA – The Time and Tide Resource Conservation and Development Council will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 9 Green St. Members will hear updates on active projects. The meeting is open to the public.

The group works with communities in Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Waldo counties on many projects that have a goal of fostering the orderly conservation, improvement, development and wise use of natural resources. The focus is on projects that will improve the economic opportunities of people in that area. E-mail [email protected].

Wins heating oil

PARIS – A Randolph couple has won 10 years of free heating oil in a drawing held at C.N. Brown Co.’s North Windham heating oil office.

Lisa and Steve Veregge’s names were drawn to receive the Red Shield heating oil, equivalent to around 10,000 gallons, said Diane Campbell, advertising coordinator out of the company’s Paris headquarters.

This is the first year the company has run the contest, which was publicized on radio station WBLM. Contestants could enter the drawing through the station or by visiting any of C.N. Brown’s offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Film festival

PORTLAND – The media services office at the University of New England is seeking creative short films and videos for its first film and video festival this fall and spring.

Called “Cookies Shorts” (because the event’s creators love cookies and films), the festival will take place twice a year on UNE’s Westbrook College Campus in Portland. The first festival date is Nov. 13. The second date is scheduled for spring. Admission to all screenings is free and open to the public.

All genres of film and video (in VHS or DVD format) are welcome, as long as they are no more than 10 minutes in length. Submission deadline is Oct. 15, for the Nov. 13 showing.
