• Interviewing Skills from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10.
• Test of Adult Basic Education from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16.
• General Aptitude Test Battery from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 17.
• Career Decision Making from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14.
• Essentials of College Planning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. This workshop is a step-by-step instruction on filling out financial aid forms to assist the applicant in getting the maximum amount in grants and loans. Youth Center
PHILLIPS – The Youth Center and Activities Planning Meeting for Phillips, Avon and Madrid will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the United Methodist Church. This is a brainstorming session. For more information, phone Gillian Trapp at 639-4060 or Richard Beale at 639-4096.
Society program
STRATTON – The Dead River Area Historical Society will hold a program from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5. The public is invited to attend An Afternoon with Charlie Bruce from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Last summer, Bruce sang several of Jud Strunk’s songs including, and it is hoped that he will sing some of them again. He has recently released three CDs, which will also be available to purchase, and he will sign them for customers. An ice cream social will also be held. Displays at the historical society include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River and much more.
After 5 Club
JAY – The Western Mountain Women’s Connections and After 5 Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 7, at LaFleur’s Restaurant. A luncheon will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. and a dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The program is a Stained Glass Medley, the B eauty of Stained Glass with Cindy Curtis. Diane Muise will provide music.
