DURHAM – Local writer and historian Jim Baumer is researching and gathering information for his upcoming book on town team baseball.

Baumer, a freelance writer, brings the credibility to tackle this project. From his involvement in the local game as a player, coach and now as chronicler of the history and stories from its past, Baumer hopes to have his book, “When Towns Had Teams,” out by Christmas.

“There is a rich cultural niche that town team baseball occupied in the history of our local communities that hasn’t been adequately addressed,” said Baumer.

“The people and personalities that made up local town teams were as varied as the Maine weather.”

Anyone who has information, stories, old clippings and other pertinent information on town team baseball, particularly the period from the late 1950s to the mid-to-late 1970s, is asked to contact Baumer.

For more information, contact Baumer at 353-2475, [email protected] or visit the Web at www.jimbaumeriswriteforyou.com.
