DEER ISLE (AP) – The body of a 21-year-old Stonington man whose boat flipped while he was fishing for stripers was found Tuesday afternoon in the waters off Deer Isle.

Roger Hardy was found by Maine State Police divers about 100 yards from shore in Billings Cove off the Stinson Point section of Deer Isle.

, according to Coast Guard Ensign John Hanley.

Hardy and another man were fishing in a small aluminum skiff Monday night when the boat overturned. The other man was picked up by a passing boater, but Hardy never surfaced, Hanley said.

Officials said neither man knew how to swim, and neither man had on a life preserver.

“Probably if there’d been life jackets, we wouldn’t be out here,” Maine Marine Patrol Sgt. John Williams said.
