JAY – Rildo Martini, mill manager of International Paper’s Inpacel mill in Brazil, has been named the new manager of IP’s Androscoggin Mill.
Martini, whose first name is pronounced “Hildo,” will replace Mike Craft, who has been named mill manager of IP’s Mansfield, La., paper mill.
Craft has been manager of the Jay mill for five years.
While there, he saw the Androscoggin Mill through some difficult market times, won voters’ approval for a 20-year tax break for the company, and won corporate approval to invest $112 million in the Jay mill to rebuild a coated paper machine and upgrade its groundwood operations, bleaching plant and transformer system.
Before coming to Maine, Craft worked in IP’s Decorative Products Business in South Carolina and Maryland and held positions with the company’s Vicksburg, Miss., mill and with its environment, health and safety organization in Memphis, Tenn.
Craft and his family plan to relocate to Louisiana.
Martini has been with IP for 26 years and brings a wealth of knowledge in the coated papers business, according to a company release.
In addition to his work at the company’s Inpacel mill in Brazil, he has held various manufacturing positions at IP’s Mogi Guacu Mill in Brazil.
He also spent two years at IP’s Bucksport mill as manager of the No. 1 and No. 2 paper machines.
Craft stated in the release announcing his successor that “No words can describe the difficulty in saying goodbye to such a great team of people at Andro. The support, passion for success and dedication to our mill make me proud.
“My wife, Judy, daughter, Erika, son, David, and I have all been touched by the people in our mill and town communities,” Craft stated. “Leaving a location is always difficult, but we’ll always remember the relationships we developed in Maine, and especially Jay.”
Jay Town Manager Ruth Marden said she was sorry to see Craft leave because “we’ve really had a great relationship.”
Marden said she was optimistic that she and the new manager would have the same type of relationship.
