FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots released quarterback Jim Miller and offensive lineman Tim Provost and placed defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield on injured reserve on Tuesday.
The moves reduced the Patriots roster to 65 players by Tuesday’s deadline.
They also have roster exemptions for nine players who played in NFL Europe this year.
Miller hadn’t played in any of the Patriots three exhibition games since signing as a free agent last month.
He had played for Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Chicago and Tampa Bay before missing last season because of an injury to his right shoulder, for which he underwent surgery in February.
His departure leaves New England with Tom Brady, Rohan Davey and Kliff Kingsbury at quarterback.
Provost was drafted in the sixth round last year by Miami, was released and spent the season on the Patriots practice squad.
Stubblefield has an ankle injury. He signed as a free agent on Aug. 5 after playing for Oakland last season. In 11 NFL seasons he also played for San Francisco and Washington.
