The county fair at Livermore Falls promises to be a hummer. This fair is always popular with the Lewiston and Auburn people who go up for a good day’s enjoyment and it is a fact that they always get it. Lowell, the secretary, of Auburn, has been as busy as ever in preparation for the event.

Nevertheless, Bates College is wrapping up a solar energy project whose result will be a significant saving of natural gas – and money – and a decrease in the college’s dependence on conventional fuels. Atop the new wing of Chase Hall on the Bates campus, workers have completed the installation of 53 solar panels; each nearly 20 square feet in area. Thirty-two panels are visible from the ground, mounted on a mansard roof at the rear of Chase Hall.
