LEWISTON – Barbara M. Eastwood, 83, of Rangeley, died Saturday, Aug. 28, at Marshwood Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born May 28, 1921, in West Jonesport, the daughter of Dr. John Henry Moulton and Helena (Lena) Gray Moulton. She graduated from Rangeley High School and attended Farmington State Normal School, which later was incorporated into the University of Maine system.
She married Carl John Eastwood of Rialto, Calif., at her parent’s home Sept. 28, 1940. She had a rooming house for a number of years and was the manager of the Alpine Shop for many years. She was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Her kitchen was the central gathering place for family and friends who dropped in. She loved her life and squeezed every drop of joy from each friendship and conversation with everyone she knew. She loved people and took great pleasure in chatting with them. She enjoyed painting, reading, knitting and challenging herself with crossword puzzles.
She was an avid golfer and cross-country skier, and loved walking in the woods or with friends in town. She was a devoted wife and mother. She shared her time and energy with the elderly and those who were alone and did so quietly without need of recognition.
