TURNER – A new business will soon occupy the Route 4 site that was formerly Circle Electrik and then Champ’s Steakhouse, which burned flat five years ago. The site had remained unoccupied.
Loxley Properties of Cumberland-Foreside purchased the property and is putting up a 60- by 100-foot building, said Tom Dubois of Maine-Land Development Consultants Inc. of Jay.
According to town documents, Loxley will lease the building to a specialty contractor following completion. The contractor, whose name was not available, specializes in major renovation work and asbestos removal from both private and public facilities.
The business is expected to employ about 10 people, two office workers and eight warehouse/job-site workers. Construction materials will be stored in the building but only short-term storage of asbestos will be allowed under the town’s approval, which was given in July.
Neither Loxley representative Steve Broadhead nor the town’s AVCOG adviser could not be reached for more information Friday.
At this time, no other buildings are expected to be constructed on the site and a completion date on the building was not known.
The fire that destroyed Champ’s Steakhouse, valued at between $500,000 and $600,000, in October 1999 was determined by officials to be arson. After a lengthy investigation, no arrest was ever made.
