Two letters appeared in the Aug. 23 letters to the editor. One was from Rep. Shields, a Republican, claiming Republicans proposed all the solutions for health care in the state. The other was written by Reps. Simpson and Mailhot, both Democrats, blaming Republicans for not allowing a bond package to appear on the November ballot.

It appears as though both parties are more concerned with maintaining political philosophies rather than finding common ground to bring forth solutions to the problems we have. Rather than reaching middle ground for solutions, both parties find it easier to blame each other for not solving the problems.

There is tremendous animosity between the parties at the national level. It seems as though much of the same rhetoric that is in Washington is now taking hold in Maine.

There will be a tax cap issue on the ballot in November. I believe this will have a devastating effect on most cities and towns. If it should pass, I believe the blame will rest with both political parties for not working in the best interest of the citizens of Maine.

As we prepare to elect a new Legislature, seek out the candidates and ask not only how they intend to deal with issues, but how they will work with other members to do what is in the best interests of the citizens of Maine.
