Instead of “Speed,” the Sun Journal headline of Aug. 29 should have read: “24 deaths and 2,851 accidents due to speeding, all preventable.” I seriously doubt that any other type of nonviolent crime has caused as many deaths as speeding.

Also, shame on the Sun Journal for giving such notoriety to the “speed demon” when he clearly threatens the safety of our roads. Instead, highlight the person who consistently obeys the speed limit and then becomes a victim of road rage by a person who wishes to break the law.

Speeding is a crime and should be treated as such in the Sun Journal.

Furthermore, by giving speeders tips so as to avoid a speeding ticket, the Sun Journal is aiding those who wish to break speed limit laws – the very laws designed to save lives! What’s next? Giving tips to the person who wants to burglarize homes and not get caught?

While the series of articles about speeding may sell papers, they are doing our communities a disservice.

This is irresponsible journalism at best.
