LEWISTON – A Lewiston Recreation Department youth tennis team captured the USA Team Tennis New England championship in a recent tournament held at Wallingford, Conn.

Lewiston completed the tourney with a fantastic match record of 27-3. They beat teams from New Hampshire, Eastern Massachusetts, Western Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut 1 and 2.

Members of the New England champs are Michael Butler, Calvin Chicoine, Will Emerson, Devin Van Dyke, Audrey Bergeron, Julia Bergeron, Kasey Boucher, Stephanie Gagne, Chantalle Lavertu. Two other players competed in the state tourney, Ben McDonough and Ashley Morgan. The team is coached by Anita Murphy, director of the Lewiston Rec Tennis Program.

The New England champs will now compete in the national tourney, Oct. 8-10 in Delaware.
