LEWISTON – Joshua Holdeman, a member of the Bates College Class of 1993 and head of the photographs department at Christie’s New York, will lecture at the college at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16.
The lecture will be in Room 105 of Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St.
He’ll speak about a Bates College Museum of Art exhibit featuring Maine photographers.
Holdeman directs the departments of photographs and of 20th-century decorative arts at Christie’s New York, the prestigious auction house.
His lecture will be followed by a reception in the museum, which is also in the arts center, and short gallery talks by Maine artists Melonie Bennett and Tanja Hollander. They both have work in the group exhibition called “New Acquisitions: Local and Global Contemporary Photography.”
The “Local and Global Contemporary Photography” exhibit presents American, African and Chinese artists.
In addition to Bennett and Hollander, the American photographers represented include Jocelyn Lee, Scott Peterman and Sa Schloff, all associated with the Bakery Photo Cooperative in Portland.
The exhibit will be up until May 30. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; it is closed Sundays and major holidays.
The event is open to the public at no charge. For more information, call (207) 786-6158.
