BATH – The Chocolate Church Arts Center will feature “Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas: Fire and Grace” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17.

Fraser’s mastery of the Scottish fiddle will combine with the youthful virtuosity of cellist Haas.

Fraser’s fiddling, engaging stage presence and deep understanding of Scotland’s music have created international demand for his solo appearances and concerts.

Fraser has been featured on several national programs, including “CBS Sunday Morning,” National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition,” “A Prairie Home Companion,” “The Thistle and Shamrock” and “The Kennedy Center Honors.”

At 18, Haas is already a seasoned performer. Currently a student of recording artist Fred Sherry at the Juilliard School in New York City, she discovered the cello at age 9. Three years later, she fell in love with Celtic music at the Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School, where director Alasdair Fraser urged her to investigate the cello’s potential for rhythmic accompaniment to fiddle tunes.

Over the past three years, she has joined Alasdair Fraser for festival and concert appearances in Scotland, New York, Alaska and throughout California.

She has been featured cellist with the 100-member San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers orchestra, beginning with their Alaska tour in 1999.

Tickets for “Fire and Grace” are $19 for members of the arts center, $21 in advance and $25 at the door.
