AUBURN – Swim classes will begin the week of Sept. 13. The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston will offer the following classes: Parent and Tot (6 to 18 months), Water Babies (18 to 24 months), Tiny Tots (ages 2 to 5), Youth Progressive lessons (6 and up), Introduction to Competitive Swimming (6 to 18) and adult swim lessons.

Parent and Tot: designed to introduce infants to the water. A parent is required to participate. Classes will be from 8:30 to 9 and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Water Babies: 15-minute class catering to the timid new swimmer. It has a 1:1 child/instructor ratio. Classes are 10 to 10:15 a.m. Monday and Wednesday.

Tiny Tots: teaches children to swim and feel safe around the water. Classes are offered at various times on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Monday evenings.

Advanced Tiny Tot: classes are held at 7 p.m. Monday, 2 p.m. Tuesday, 10:15 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday. All classes run for 30 minutes.

Youth Progressive Lessons: taught from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Each program runs for eight weeks from Sept. 13 to Nov. 6. Class size is limited. Registration is taken on a first come-first serve basis. All participants must be YMCA members. A yearly (social) membership for those ages 5 and under is $20; youth membership, $45. All have a $45 program fee.

The YMCA is also holding registration for water exercise programs.

Water aerobics is a lower impact cardiovascular workout for adults. Classes will be held from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 to 8:45 a.m. Mondays and Fridays. Classes are free for those with a YMCA full privilege membership. Non-members must pay a $20 adult social membership fee (good for a year) and a $65 program fee.

Simply Stretch is a new adult class designed to help with flexibility. It will be held in the pool and consists of basic stretching and step-by-step routine motions. Class is offered from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays and is free for those with a membership. Non-members must pay the above fees.

Adult swim lessons will be held from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Fridays. Non-members must pay a $20 social membership. All participants must pay the $45 program fee.

YMCA aquatic programs are designed to instill confidence in participants and make learning new skills fun and challenging in a positive way. The YMCA also offers adult lap swim, family/open swims, Scout swims and splash parties.
