A headline in the Sun Journal Aug. 31, “McCain: Bush has experience America needs.” Sen. McCain and the Republicans attack Sen. Kerry constantly about saying one thing today and something else tomorrow. Today’s headlines don’t reflect what McCain told a legislative seminar hosted by U.S. Rep. Martin T. Meehan just a few weeks past. These are words from a clipping that I have before me: Sen. John McCain yesterday unleashed an attack on his own party, saying the GOP is “astray” on key issues. He said he believes his party has gone astray, criticizing GOP stands on environmental and minority issues.

The Arizona Republican took on President Bush for failing to prepare Americans for a long involvement in Iraq, saying you can’t land on an aircraft carrier and declare victory and have deaths continue. You can’t do that.

Now, McCain tells us that George Bush, who never experienced the hell of combat and stood watch when this country suffered its most devastating attack, is a better choice than Kerry.

I don’t think so and can’t imagine why anyone else would.
