SOUTH PARIS – Herbert “Herb” W. Kittredge, 84, of Hanover, died Monday, Sept. 6, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.

He was born in Berlin, N.H. on Sept. 19, 1919, the son of James B. and Elizabeth M. King Kittredge.

Mr. Kittredge was an Army veteran of World War II, and had worked as a carpenter most of his life.

He married Ruth Rolfe on April 1, 1939.

Herb was a member of the American Legion Post 81 of Bethel, as well as the 40/8 of the Legion. He was an avid snowmobiler and a member of the Windy Valley Snowmobile Club, where the clubhouse is dedicated to Herb. He worked for 17 years with the handicapped skiing.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Rolfe) Kittredge, of South Paris; one son, Walter Kittredge and his wife, Sandra Coyle, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia M. Brown and her husband, Blair C. Sr., of Brunswick, and Kathy L. Bean and her husband, Harlan, of South Paris; one brother, Henry Kittredge and his wife, Marie, of Georgia; one sister, Ella Rolfe of Waterford; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and special friends, Keith and Lia Durgin, and their son, Luke, of Newry.

He was predeceased by one son, Laurier M. Kittredge, in 1975; two brothers, Lewis Kittredge and Arthur Kittredge; and one sister, Lillian Herrick.
