On Sept. 14, I urge Auburn residents to vote yes in support of the new Lake Street neighborhood school to be built on Park Avenue.

The current Lake Street School does not have the educational necessities found at all other schools in Auburn. It lacks a cafeteria, an adequate library, a gymnasium, and art and music classrooms. It has no central meeting place for school-wide events – especially for the weekly, community-inspiring Monday morning sing where all students, staff, teachers and often parents come together to celebrate their school, their core values (honesty, respect, compassion, fairness, courage and responsibility), and the week’s upcoming events.

I urge residents to vote yes to accept from the state of Maine the $8.1 million it will provide for the construction of this new K-6th grade elementary school. That’s 84 percent of the cost covered by the state of Maine. Auburn needs only fund the remaining 16 percent of the costs.

I urge residents to vote yes to support our children and to provide them with the educational necessities they need to be successful and well-rounded students. In 1987, Lon Watters said, “School is a building with four walls – with tomorrow inside.”

Join me in voting yes on Sept. 14 to provide the best tomorrow possible.
