This note was prompted by the front-page article in the Sun Journal dated Sept. 9, “Bennett: Tax cap would gut city.” I believe Mr. Bennett’s data to be fair and true. The issue I have is with unlimited, endless tax increases annually. I, as a citizen and taxpayer, have to live within my means so why is it so wrong to ask state and local government to do the same.

Many opportunities have presented themselves to assist us with these tax burdens; however, our state leaders (including Gov. Baldacci) have decided, with help from strong political groups, to send them packing.

New jobs, new homes and new businesses are but only a few factors that assist us with this liability. So help create some.

Many citizens in this state fear change. Change is not always good. However, it is part of this game we call “life.” Look in the mirror today. Then look again tomorrow. The only way you will see no change is if you are looking at a snap shot of yesterday.

To coin a phrase from the late Jim Longley’s campaign, “think about it.”
