SOUTH PARIS – Alfred E. Allen, 76, of 15 Jackson Crossing Rd., passed peacefully at home, Saturday, Sept. 4.

Born in Denver, Colo., Aug. 19, 1928, he was later adopted by his grandparents, Peter and Siiri Hakkarainen, and educated in Woodstock.

He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was retired from the Maine Department of Transportation. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Millie Hazelton Allen, of 29 years; a son, Vaikko Allen, of Augusta; a daughter, Helen Brown, of Michigan; stepdaughters, Darlene Nicholas, of New London, Conn., Judith Harrington, of Dover, N.H., Kathy Benson, of Woodstock, Lori Hill, of Waterford; a stepson, Ronald Hazelton, of Florence, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; plus 10 step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held for family on Thursday at the Finnish Cemetery in West Paris.
