LEWISTON – HealthSteps Adult Fitness Program at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will offer several yoga classes this fall as follows:
Yoga for All Levels: Mondays, 5 to 6 p.m., Sept. 13 to Oct. 25; cost, $56; St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lepage Large Conference Room; room change, Sept. 20, Oct. 11, d’Youville Pavilion, Resident Dining Room.
The class is good for beginners and those with some yoga experience. Students will learn and experience some of the health benefits of yoga. Class will be taught in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and will consist of the physical practice of combining body movement with focused breath. It is a low-impact way to increase flexibility, reduce stress and align mind, body and spirit. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. Bring a towel and/or mat and water. Tammy Begin-Leblanc from the Yoga Center of Maine will teach the class.
Gentle Yoga: Wednesdays, 9 to 10 a.m., Sept. 15 to Oct. 27; cost, $56; St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Women’s Pavilion Fleet Room.
The class is designed for those who have conditions that may limit their flexibility or for those who want a less rigorous initiation into yoga practice. Participants are gently guided through standing and seated poses in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Begin-Leblanc will be the instructor.
Prenatal Yoga: Mondays, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sept. 20 to Nov. 1 (no class Oct. 4); cost, $75; Endoscopy Waiting Room.
Participants will learn postures and breathing to help strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles, keep the body flexible and find focus through breathing. Instructor will be Jean Dowling, Certified Nurse Midwife.
