AUBURN – One of the busiest areas of the city will be closed to traffic Tuesday as crews repair water lines beneath the crossover between Washington Street and Minot Avenue.

Travelers driving north on Washington Street and trying to head west on Minot will have to find a new route, according to Auburn Highway Department Supervisor Richard Keene.

Flaggers will be out near the crossover, in front of Roy’s Hamburgers, while work is being done between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Keene said. The road closure will affect drivers trying to head west on Minot Avenue, toward Minot and Mechanic Falls, after driving into Auburn on northbound Washington Street.

“It’s just a short crossover but a lot of truckers use it,” Keene said.

The work is expected to be completed by Tuesday night and the crossover should be open to commuter traffic by Wednesday morning.
