MEXICO – A concert will be presented by homeschoolers Jennifer McPherson of southern Maine and Timothy A. Blodgett of Peru at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Mexico First Baptist Church, 20 Roxbury Rd. They will perform piano, organ and piano duets and sing. A love offering will be taken during the concert and a reception will follow.
McPherson is a musically gifted 13-year-old who loves to share her music through singing, piano and organ. Over the past six years she has been singing solos in her church, at weddings and other functions, as well as performing the National Anthem at sporting events, including the Portland Seadogs.
At 11 McPherson performed “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Maine State Capitol. She is a member of the 2004 ACDA All-Eastern Honor Choir and the Sandpipers, the Seacoast Children’s Chorus.
Blodgett, 15, son of Timothy and Erica Blodgett, has been playing piano since he was 8. He has been pianist at First Baptist Church of Mexico since age 11. He also plays for the choir and with Donald Haines, church organist, on Sunday mornings.
He played his first concert at 12, performing Handel’s “Messiah,” arranged by John W. Schaum. Blodgett plays the saxophone with the Worship Team at First Baptist Church, with the Mountain Valley High School Band and the Jazz Band.
He also accompanied Gail Dorr, his piano teacher, in the 35th Year Celebration of RAAPA, and the RAAPA Dinner Theatre in June, under the direction of Judy Kuhn. Blodgett performed with McPherson at the Congregational Church in Eliot in June.
The public is invited to attend and people can call 207-364-8712 for more information.
