FARMINGTON – Kristy Veazie netted the game-winning goal at 8:47 into overtime to lift the University of Maine at Farmington to a 3-2 victory over Bates College in a field hockey game Tuesday.

Kristen Allen started the scoring off for UMF two minutes into the first half of the contest off a pass from Mary Sinclair. UMF’s second goal came in the second half when Kristi Cochin converted a pass from Mary Berry and found the back of the net.

The Bates’ effort was led by Erin Chandler and Megan Petry, each tallying a goal in the second half of the contest.

Maine 2, Dartmouth 1

ORONO – Kasey Spencer scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 remaining in the second overtime to lift the University of Maine to a 2-1 win over Dartmouth college in field hockey action Tuesday.

Spencer had her initial shot stopped by Dartmouth goalkeeper Lauren Balukjian before she was able to beat her for the game-winner. For Spencer, it was her second goal of the season and second game-winner. Katie Flaherty picked up an assist on the tally.

Dartmouth jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Audrey Knutson notched her second goal of the season at 22:59.

The Big Green held the lead until Rachel Hilgar tied the game at 40:29. Joanna Fernandes found Hilgar in front of the cage for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

NEC 2, USM 1

GORHAM – Brittney Vogrin scored 6:15 into the second sudden death overtime period to give New England College a 2-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine in another field hockey matchup Tuesday. Katie Hanken gave the Pilgrims (3-1) a 1-0 lead late in the first half when she used a reverse flick to put the ball past USM keeper Sadie Garnache-Poirier.

The Huskies (0-5) got the equalizer with 11:25 remaining in regulation when Tracey Montgomery took a pass from Kayla Vaughn out of a scramble in front and drove a shot in the goal. Jacqui Parker finished the game with 12 saves for the Pilgrims, while Garnache-Poirier was credited with 21 saves.

Mens’ soccer

Bowdoin 2, Plymouth State 0

BRUNSWICK – Nick Figueiredo and Andrew Russo scored single goals to propel Bowdoin to a 2-0 shutout victory over Plymouth State in men’s college soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears’ (2-0) Nathan Lovitz needed only five saves in net to notch the win. Dan Custance turned away 11 shots in net for Plymouth (3-1) but got no offensive support.

Bates 2, UMF 1

LEWISTON – Ian Livengood took a pass from David Shear and found the back of the net with 16 minutes left in the second half to give Bates a 2-1 win over University of Maine at Farmington in men’s soccer Tuesday.

UMF scored the first goal of the game when Joe Conway fired a shot past goalkeeper James Kenly. Bobcats’ (1-1) Duane Pelz scored the game-tying goal on a feed from Jacob Bluestone.

Women’s soccer

Colby, 3 UNE 1

WATERVILLE – Libba Cox and Laura Williamson scored goals in a two-minute span of the first half to help the Colby College women’s soccer team break away for a 3-1 non-conference victory over the University of New England.

Colby started fast when Kaitlin Herlihy stole a clearing pass and lofted a high shot over UNE goalkeeper Amanda Brown just 1:40 into the game.

UNE’s lone goal was netted by Amanda Smith, who broke in on the left side and ripped an 18-yarder into the left corner of the net.
