FARMINGTON – The September meeting night of Farmington Emblem Club 460 began with a potluck supper followed by the first meeting since June. President Rebecca Powell called the meeting to order with 30 members present, four excused and 93 absent, for a new total of 127.

Sylvia Richards, in charge of Emblem Club workers for the Elks and Emblem food booth at Farmington Fair, reported on her progress in lining up women to work in the kitchen and as waitresses for the Sept. 19 to 25 fair.

She said five women met at the Elks Lodge near the end of August to prepare 500 pounds of turkey meat for the hot turkey sandwiches. She still needs to line up more workers and will call members to request help.

Shannon Smith reported on the Emblem Club-sponsored youth cheerleaders. She also told members of the plans for the Harvest/Halloween dance on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Elks Lodge. The evening will start with a boiled dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by music with the Travelers from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are available at $25 a couple.

The club voted to donate to the Cascade Brook Red Ribbon Campaign, the Farmington Elks golf tournament, Ashley Bourassa for Team ME, two girls from Jay Middle School raising money for a special trip to Washington, D.C., for the hose and nozzle fund of Temple Fire Department, to a club member who has been ill all summer and to Wiles Funeral Home in memory of the death of the son of an Emblem member and her husband, a member of the Farmington Elks.

Bethany Storer reported on the profits made from the Father’s Day breakfast held at the Elks Lodge in June. All food used had been donated by club members.

This month’s 50-50 drawing was won by Avis Mahoney and the Sunshine gift by Becky Powell.
